Gray Skies and Black Birds in the Winter
Almost thirty years ago, I was in Kentucky keeping the hills safe for tea-baggers. We spent a lot of time out in those cold wet hills, good training they called it. One gray evening we flew low ( about 500 feet ) over that leafless forest and I saw what must have been a million blackbirds flying in formation below us. They were so thick that you couldn’t hardly see between them. It was like...
The Exaggerated Death of RSS and Look at Me
The recent attention given to the imminent demise of RSS got me to thinking, is this how stuff is promoted on the internet? I’ve seen this before, when a well known internet personality declares a service dead or dying a lot of people rush to that service, product or application. Seth Godin wrote in a short and sweet article; RSS is quiet and fast and professional and largely hype-free....

The Wedding Bells Toll For Thee
A young man walking the streets of Atlanta, GA yesterday may have heard the sound of wedding bells. Those bells rang at my niece’s wedding, and they announced the sad news to young men everywhere that the most wonderful, and beautiful young lady in America has passed you over. My only regret is that I couldn’t be there myself. Look at this pic her sister took, is this a story-book...

Autopost Options In Amplify Posts
I had some problems with duplicate posts from Amplify to Buzz. I had selected both Google Buzz and Posterous on the Autopost page under Settings at Amplify. I had my Posterous page set to autopost to Buzz, which created a duplicate post in Buzz. The Autopost from Posterous displayed images in the Buzz item, but the direct post from Amplify did not. I want the images, so my problem was how to...

Turn a USB Flash Drive Into Extra Vitural RAM
Amplify’d from lifehacker.com It’s not hard to turn an extra USB stick lying around that’s collecting dust into extra memory for your computer, allowing it to run speedier and manage more applications better. DIY site Instructables has a guide on how to put a flash drive to good use by using it to increase the virtual RAM on your Windows computer. For the best results, Instructables...

Exploring the 'Clip' feature at Amplify
I thought I’d try clipping items from my Amplify News-feed. Then, I noticed that I could ‘clip’ the comments as well as the body of the item. After I had selected the individual items from the page, I clicked on ‘done’ at the to of the page and noticed that I could actually select which of my listed social pages I want to push this item too. This post will go to...

How do I disconnect Amplify from Buzz? I have Amplify pushed to Posterous which pushes to Buzz ( Posterous posts full post including pics ). I’m getting duplicate items in Buzz. I’ve looked at settings here at Amplify, and other services ( like Posterous ) allow me to disconnect, but Buzz seems to only allow me to connect …. arrggghhh…. See this Amp at...
Relax
Get off the Freeway, turn onto a back-road, look for a dirt-road, find a small pond. Listen… Hear the birds, and the bugs. Feel and smell the breeze. Watch the ripples on the water. Relax…See this Amp at http://amplify.com/u/78vf via Amplify.com Posted via email from Wallace’s posterous | Comment »

Global Ethics Corner: Ecological Intervention →
August 28, 2009 Do states have a responsibility to protect the planet? As a result of “crimes against humanity,” like the genocide in Rwanda, there is an emerging norm of humanitarian intervention. If genocide is condemned, might the international community one day condemn ecocide? Might mass extinctions and massive ecosystem destruction be regarded as “crimes against...

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico enacted a controversial law on Thursday decriminalizing possession of small amounts of marijuana, cocaine, heroin and other drugs while encouraging government-financed treatment for drug dependency free of charge. The law sets out maximum “personal use” amounts for drugs, also including LSD and methamphetamine. People...

Monkey Experiment
Put eight monkeys in a room. In the middle of the room is a ladder, leading to a bunch of bananas hanging from a hook on the ceiling. Each time a monkey tries to climb the ladder, all the monkeys are sprayed with ice water, which makes them miserable. Soon enough, whenever a monkey attempts to climb the ladder, all of the other monkeys, not wanting to be sprayed, set upon him and beat him up....
I Guess This Settles It
Stephen Hawking responds to the bizarro report that if he were English (which he is) that his life would be considered worthless by the National Health Service: “I wouldn’t be here today if it were not for the NHS. I have received a large amount of high-quality treatment without which I would not have survived.”
